Brazen Dance Theatre was formed in 2001 by its Director and Choreographer,
Caroline Bridges, former member of Motionhouse Dance Theatre.
Brazen Dance Theatre aims to create accessible, comic and relevant work about
modern issues. Highly physical partnering work and contemporary
choreography is accompanied by the use of text and/or film to evoke a world
that is compelling, adventurous and humorous. Communication is paramount in
Brazen Dance Theatre's work, and the company aims to engage with the audience
on a number of levels through imagery and the sheer physicality
of each production.
For LOVE or MONEY was a sell-out success at the Robin
Howard Dance Theatre, London. Since then, it has generated interest from
theatres and schools based both within and outside London, including the
Choreographer's Platform at the Leap Into Dance Festival, Richmond, 2002
and the Medway Arts Spring Festival, Kent. For LOVE or MONEY performed in
Lincoln, Sheffield and Leeds in October 2002. Brazen Dance Theatre's latest work, BRANDED premiered at The Place
in February 2003 and toured to Lincoln and Richmond's Leap into Dance festival. Brazen Dance Theatre
will tour with For LOVE or MONEY and BRANDED in Spring 2004.
Brazen Dance Theatre has a very strong education policy. It aims to teach
dance skills and creativity to individuals of all abilities and needs.
Brazen Dance Theatre encourages individuality in workshops, and aims to
draw out and develop the strengths of each participant. Brazen
Dance Theatre aims to make each workshop fun and stimulating, and seeks to
leave each participant with a sense of achievement.
Education work includes: one-off workshops to introduce dance to
school classes or community groups; week-long, creative-based residencies
with the possibility of a sharing at the end of
the week; with input for teachers to be passed down to their
pupils. Workshops can have an emphasis on skills-based movement, creative
imagery and can be of a thematic nature.
