DISPOSABLE LOVE is an ambitious new dance film installation which explores
the nature of our consumer society and its relationship with love. In our fast
paced lives where the emphasis is on ease of consumption and disposability, are
our relationships with others becoming the same?
Film maker and dance theatre director Caroline Bridges has invited installation
artist Claudia Borgna to transform the gallery into a landscape of thousands of
recycled disposable white plastic bags representing the emotional debris of
discarded relationships.
Using the latest projection technology, the work features four characters
projected life size onto screens emerging from this plastic discarded wasteland,
dancing together in a series of duets and trios that give insight into the nature
of their personal interactions.
DISPOSABLE LOVE takes the nature of consumption in our modern world and
uses it as a metaphor for modern relationships The work has been developed with
the direct involvement of members of the Solihull community whose humorous and
touching anecdotes of lost love have been integrated into the soundscape of the
installation. The audience are welcome to add to the installation by bringing
their own plastic bags to contribute to the field.
It is Caroline Bridges' film projections that have attracted most
attention.
